Fair Queen Conceptual
Project Description
During my time as an intern at the Indiana State Fair they started to introduce yearly themes to celebrate a specific agricultural or cultural element of Indiana (i.e. Corn and Basketball). So, over the years I have tried to incorporate these themes into a photo or series that the Indiana State Fair can use on social media. Not to mention, they are a lot of fun to put together! We have also done a few other non-theme related, but still conceptual, photos over the years that I enjoyed working on immensely. I’d like to give a special thanks to the coordinator Bobbi Bates (and former Queen herself) for letting me try some crazy ideas — and giving me some crazy ideas of her own! And, to Erica Foit, who always makes the queens look their best for their official portrait, and helps me change up their look when we’re working towards a specific concept.

2020 (2021) – Celebrating Basketball
In 2020, the Indiana State Fair was set to celebrate Indiana’s rich history and contribution to the game of basketball. Unfortunately, the Fair was forced to cancel in 2020 due to the pandemic, but they kept the theme for 2021 and we were able to use these shots of Claudia showing off her ball handling abilities. I also thought I’d include a photo I never imagined I would take: one where the Queen’s face is obstructed by a mask. We took a series of photos of Claudia masked up to promote proper mask and social distancing protocols. Crazy times, but Claudia rocked it!
