FlipsideAR Insert
Project Description
We decided to do an update to our insert that included Mark Twain on the cover, with a quote of his on direct-marketing that tied perfectly into Apex’s Flipside® business model. We wanted to incorporate the same level of interactivity with our Flipside model that we recently incorporated into our website and media presentation, but in print form. So, I designed a graphic that shows how the various campaigns in the approach reach an entire neighborhood. The graphic was then used as an image target for an augmented reality experience. Because we wanted this to also serve as a standalone piece we did some really nice printing on a heavier paper stock and included some foil on Twain’s quote and signature; sort of his stamp of approval. The piece has die-cut barn doors that open up to reveal a more techie interior (conceptually taking an old idea into the 21st century) complete with a QR code download for the app experience.

Front Cover Design
This striking image of Mark Twain was used with permission from the Mark Twain House. The title of “why we knocked your door…” was chosen as a way to address Apex’s direct approach head on with homeowners. We’ve included a great quote by Mark Twain that speaks directly to why Apex has adopted such an approach. We like to think Twain would sign-off on Apex’s approach (and use of the latest in technology to coordinate it) so we’ve included his signature as a stamp of approval. Twain’s quote and signature have been printed in a beautiful gold foil.
Interior Spread Design
I was heavily inspired by the heads-up displays found in fighter jets and chose this motif to represent how Apex was using the precision of their technology to implement such an “old fashioned” approach. The left panel includes information about why we’ve taken such an approach along with a QR code for download the app yourself. The right panel explains each of the three campaigns in more detail. This spread can stand alone, without the use of the FlipsideAR application, but really comes to life when incorporating the technology.

You can download the app using the QR code, but will need to point your camera at the image on the screen in lieu of having the printed piece.
