Apex Story Popup Book

Project Description

This was an app we created at Apex to tell the history and legacy to prospective franchisees in an interactive and immersive way. To do this we found inspiration in Victorian-era pop-up books. I worked heavily on the conceptual part of this project, but also did some UI/UX works and general page composition, layout and color critiquing. The illustrations and 3D work were all done in house by a brilliant artist named Patrick Shaw. We studied a lot of styling and color theory from the late 1800’s as well as paper engineering to properly execute the design. The final Unity app work was done by a third party contractor based out of Utah, where the app was truly brought to life. I’m very proud of the work we did on this project, but one notable feature was the use of the iPad’s accelerometer and gyroscope to give some subtle movement to the page elements as you move the iPad around. You can watch the short clip below or download the app yourself and explore!
